A few weeks ago I decided to take a last minute girls trip with some friends to Paris, as I continue to wrap up my time living in Europe. Paris is a 2 hour bullet train ride away, so how could I say no when my friend pitched the idea. It was the same weekend most of Europe was having wacky weather, ranging from really warm to cold and rainy within a few hours. It was ALSO the same weekend our movers were coming to pack up our house (oops!) but my husband held down the fort with our two boys while I was trying to soak up my last opportunities of shopping in my favorite city.
So back to the weather. The end of May turning into June can be a weird time depending on where you live. Here in my small countryside village in Germany, we sometimes have similar weather to the weather in Paris. In this case, I was tracking the weather by the hour, but was still stumped on what to pack. I knew this was obviously going to turn into a shopping trip, so worse case (and best case scenario) I could buy anything I needed that I didn’t pack.
The morning of our train ride was cold enough to wear jeans but by the time we arrived in Paris, the sun was out and got warmer by the hour. How annoying is it that I packed boots and was SWEATING in them. I refused to pack a jacket because I so desperately wanted it to feel like summer. Even more annoying, by nightfall and the next day it dipped into the mid to high 50s and I was freezing.
So we hit the stores and cafes to people watch, while I shopped to find items I was missing. This is what stood out to me the most of what people were wearing in Paris with fluctuating weather.
Everything in Linen

Linen was EVERYWHERE. I’m talking tops, bottoms, even full suits. There was a woman walking in front of my friend and I as we were on our way to dinner in a grey full linen suit paired with sneakers. It looked effortless but also seemed practical considering the day was warm but the night was turning cool. Banana Republic, Zara, Mango and even amazon has good picks based on your color preference and style.
Wide Leg is still King

Wide leg is going to be king for a while and I’m digging it because anyone and any age can wear the wide leg trend. In some cases the wider the better. In Paris, I saw a variety of long, extra long, cropped and even jumpsuit versions. The above features picks from Quince, Target, Amazon and Zara.
Trench Coats

If there is any staple of clothing everyone should own, it’s a good trench coat to combat the days of “it’s not cold enough to wear a full coat” but it’s still breezy, rainy or chilly. This is a great transitional piece for your wardrobe going from Spring to Summer and of course Fall. When I say EVERYONE was wearing trench coats on the streets of Paris, I mean it. Young, old, men, women and I even saw a dog wearing one! Since I was cold on this trip and needed some type of a jacket, I was in a frenzy trying to find a trench coat. I popped into multiple Zaras and they were sold out. Every corner I turned, someone was wearing a trench and it felt like they were mocking me, simply because I could not find a store that had them in stock- ha! My friend found one for me at a Mango, but the line was so long and by then I was over it. Don’t be like me though, if you find a good one don’t sleep on it. You’ll have it forever and it’s a great staple to own. Try different colors and even cropped ones look great too.
Sneakers for all occasions and styles

There was definitely a variety of footwear that I observed on the streets of Paris, however what I saw the most amongst Parisians and tourists alike was a good pair of sneakers. Dresses with sneakers is still a thing. In fact, I saw one very stylish woman pair a neutral pair of New Balance sneakers with a full linen suit and it looked SO good. Let’s also be real for a minute- no one wants to be walking around in old cities throughout Europe in spiked heels or anything wobbly. A good sneaker will take you from the Metro to walking blocks to your favorite bistro or shopping spot. Not to mention it’s practical and a classic staple to anyone’s wardrobe.
Blazers are back

Blazers are back and I saw them everywhere! Especially in the afternoon/ evening when temperatures began to take a dip. When I couldn’t find the highly coveted trench coat in my hunt throughout Paris, I found the PERFECT linen blazer (upper left hand corner) from Zara. I was able to wear it over a sleeveless dress, and over jeans the next morning on the train back home. I know Summer is practically here, but based on where you live in the country (Probably not anywhere insanely hot or humid) you can still pull off this look on breezy summer nights.
