Happy Spring! Another week and we’re back with a new trend board…something currently EXPLODING right now, thanks to FX’s TV Series Love Story John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. Also keep in mind, 90s fashion has been making a comeback since last Summer. However contrary to maximalism style also making a comeback, the 90s minimalism that we all love and remember is making a viral comeback. At first glance when I think about 90s minimalism, I see a parallel to French fashion- classic pieces not necessarily trendy, but chic and neutral toned.
Here are my personal picks for the 90s minimalism style making a comeback in 2026.

Let’s start off with classic 90s style jeans. These jeans are slightly loose around the hips and thighs, with a straight leg and classic vintage wash. These Levi’s 501® ’90S WOMEN’S JEANS are a staple of the 90s era.

A crisp white shirt- Think Carolyn Bassette grabbing a men’s button down shirt and styling it. A crisp button down shirt is versatile in so many ways but adds instant chic to any outfit. You can dress it up or dress it down. This Organic cotton Relaxed Oxford Shirt by Quince is currently on sale right now!

This whole outfit is the epitome of a cool girl look from the 90s. I found this Mara Squareneck Vest Mini Dress by Abercrombie and Fitch. It’s everything I would want to recreate a nostalgic look from a time where the internet was booming, pagers were a way of communication and landlines and pay phones were a considered lifeline. This dress comes in Regular, Petite, and Tall for sizing.

Pinstripe had such a moment in the 90s. From Liz Claiborne suits, to dresses, even the gum in the 90s had stripes! This Pinstripe Blazer from Zara is great to throw over a white button down and jeans. Keep in mind, a blazer will elevate any outfit.

Vests- I remember vest styles being worn by both men and women in the 90s. I personally love the look of a vest dress or top. Maybe it’s the fit or tailoring, but I think it adds a bit of attitude and structure to an outfit. This Ribbed Button Front Knit Vest by Express is my pick for this look.

Halter necklines and satin slip dresses were all the rage in the 90s. From Gwen Stefani to Naomi Campbell, celebrities and “It” girls practically pranced around in these satin dresses. This ZW COLLECTION SATIN EFFECT HALTER DRESS is a perfect recreation of the 90s slip dress.

The satin midi skirt was a versatile staple. Midi skirts in the 90s were often paired with baby doll tee (think cropped t-shirt) or with a halter top seen above. Women often wore them with chunky boots or loafers. Also note- the hemline for a midi skirt ranged from slightly below the knee to above the ankle. This Satin Midi Skirt by Zara is a personal favorite of mine that I own.

Speaking of loafers, I’m happy to see these make a comeback. Although loafers have been popular in Europe for the past few years, the recent 90s minimalism trend have caused an uptick in sales here in the US. What I love about loafers is the versatility you can get out of them. There are also different variations- some have a chunk heel like the Journee Jessamey Loafer I found at DSW. Other variations are flat with muted features for a more casual look. Either way, you can’t go wrong with adding a pair of loafers to your shoe collection.

Let’s chat about my favorite purse silhouette of the 90s…the classic crescent shoulder mini bag. I’m almost positive this style was one of the first purses I owned becoming a teenager in the late 90s. This Italian Leather Mini Crescent Shoulder Bag by Quince is on my hot list. It’s simple yet classic. I also highly recommend splurging on quality leather versus a faux leather purse, as it will last you forever.

Last but not least, let’s talk about sunnies… The 90s had several very popular frames: round, oval or rectangular. All frames in the 90s had one thing in common- narrow and small. This was contrary to the oversized look that took over in the following decade. I found these 90s Retro Rectangle Women’s Sun Glasses on Amazon.com. I bought these in January, wanting to try something different and I actually get the MOST complements when I wear these!
I hope you enjoyed this week’s 90s Minimalism in 2026 Trend Board. Even though I was a kid in the 90s, it was fun going back down memory lane and seeing these styles making a comeback.
Cheers and happy shopping.
